Blank Blue Screen When Opening WHS Console

From We Got Served Wiki

Some times when opening the Windows Home Server console from the client, the window opens with just a blank blue screen but the console does not display. Normally in this situation the shares are still accessible and it is still possible to RDP into the server.

What you will need

What to Do

The following are things to try (in this order) to fix this problem.

  1. On the console login screen below where you enter the console password there is an options box. Click on that and select "Reset the Windows Home Server Console".
  2. Remote Desktop into the server logging in as the administrator and run the console on the server desktop. If it fails to open, check the log files to see if you can identify what is causing the problem. Sometimes installing or uninstalling an addin will cause problems with the console.
  3. Reload the connector software making sure to load the latest version from the server software shared folder.
  4. Restart the server.
