How to - Find Stuff on WGS
From We Got Served Wiki
As of the current date (May 2009) the We Got Served (WGS) forum has almost 50,000 posts. When you add to that the WGS blog and the Wiki there is quite a lot of information available on the site. Sometimes when you post a question the moderators may tell you that it has already been answered and please do a search. So, how do you find your answer in all of that information? The following are a few strategies which may help.
Review the Forums
The site is divided into different forums dedicated to various topics, e.g. Home Networking, Home Computer Backup, HP MediaSmart Server. It is suggested that you find the forum(s) which seem relevant to your question and review the topics in that forum to see if you can find the information you need. Pay particular attention to the pinned topics as they are often the answers to the most common questions.
Check Out the Wiki
Take a look at the wiki articles, particularly those in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section. A lot of work has been put into compiling the most needed information. Be sure to look at the WHS Documentation and WHS Resources articles. These contain the most complete list of links to Windows Home Serve information available anywhere.
Do a Forum Search
Near the top right corner of the forum home page there is a search box. It is difficult to see since it is black on black but it is there. You can use that to do a quick search of the forums to find your information. You can also access the search function from the blue menu bar at the top of any forum page. Clicking on the More Search Options link will allow you to use some advanced options such as selecting which forums to search, changing how the results are displayed, limiting the date range, filtering by member name and so forth. Be sure to check out the Advanced Usage Help link for assistance in setting up your key words.
Do a Google Search
Yes, as always Google is your friend. If you look at the bottom of the forum home page under Board Statistics, you will see a list of members who are logged in at any particular time. In that list you will almost always see Google, Yahoo, MSN and others who are indexing the site. So go to Google.com or to the search box in your browser (if Google is your default search provider) and type in site:wegotserved.com <your search text here> . As with any search, if you don't find what you want at first, try something else.
Done
Can this process take some time? Yes it can. But it is your question so who better to spend the time? Besides, you may learn a lot while digging through the information available.
