Restore Files From Your WHS
From We Got Served Wiki
OK, while working on my X:\Files Edition, I ran into a small problem, corrupting my base folders AND my ISO file! For some reason adding a Entries_xxx.ini into my slipstream it ended up being a massive 8 GB ISO image! And the older ISO's where already deleted(stupid, I know). Anyway, this is not good! but it's good to know I can restore my old files/folders back, using the Windows Home Server backups.
This tutorial is being performed LIVE and will show you how to get your old files back, and why it's important to have computer backups on your WHS. Anyway, here we go...
What you will need
What to Do
- Open your console and log in.
- Go to the Computers & Backup tab and double click the computer you wish to restore files from. In my case I select GAMER-PC.
- Select the backup you wish to open. Since I screwed up my files today, and yesterday probably too, I'll be taking the backup from 2 days ago.
- Select the volume where the old files are located. Mine is in volume E: (Work).
- A window will appear with the text Opening backup and a progress bar. After a little while your backups are mounted on drive Z:. It could be that your computer is going to install drivers before you can open drive Z:. After that you'll see a new drive (Z:) in your explorer.
- Open the Z: drive and select your files or folders you wish to copy back onto your computer. I'll be copying my old SVR_2003 folder back from my slipstream to my E: (Work) drive.
Done
Well, this is it! Easy huh?
