Troubleshooting Windows Home Server
From We Got Served Wiki
By now, I'm sure you may have run into a few problems with your Home Server. The problem is, narrowing it down can be a difficult and tedious job. Not to mention that there isn't any real clear documentation of its features, or how it works (yet). So this is to help everyone by explaining how to diagnose problems, so they can be easily identified.
What you will need
What to Do
Download the WHS Toolkit to the client computer that is having the problems, or to which ever one you want to just test out. Once you have it installed, you have two options: you can run it normally and get a rather basic list of what may be wrong that contains no real details; or you can run it in the advanced mode, which gives a full list of what tests pass and which fail. This is the method I prefer, as it gives important details as to why it is failing, not just why it failed.
To run the Connector Troubleshooter in advanced mode, you need to either create a new shortcut or edit the old one. I recommend creating a new one. Either way, the "target", or the command it should run should look like this when you are done:
"C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\Toolkit\ConnectorTroubleshooter.exe" -a
Done
Well, it is that simple. Now, based on this test, and the results the connector troubleshooter has given you, diagnosing your problems are a bit easier for those on the forums.
And please do attach the log to a post. Please, don't just copy the contents into a post.
